Find a rug specialist who actually washes rugs.
Most directories file rug cleaning under carpet cleaning. This one does not. Every entry here is a business that washes area rugs in its own facility — and every “Verified” badge is backed by a public record of the evidence behind it.
The registry
0 verified specialists across 0 metro areas
A metro area appears below only once at least three businesses in it have passed all four verification criteria. Research is continuing in the rest; nothing is published before the evidence is.
Why it matters
A rug is not a carpet, and the equipment is not the same
It leaves your house
A hand-knotted rug is washed flat, flooded with water, flushed and then dried under controlled airflow. None of that can happen in a living room. If a company offers to wash your Persian rug in place, that is a surface clean.
Dust comes out dry, first
Years of dry soil sits at the base of the knots, below where any vacuum reaches. It has to be shaken and beaten out before water is introduced, or washing turns it into a slurry that sets in the foundation.
Dyes and fibres vary wildly
Older vegetal dyes can bleed. Silk loses strength when wet. Viscose can pulp. A specialist tests before immersing. This is the knowledge a general cleaner has no reason to have.
The standard
What we check, and what we will not claim
Verification is deliberately narrow. We check capability from published sources and we record where we found it. We do not rate workmanship, we do not collect reviews, and we do not accept payment for a badge.
What a badge means
- The business operates its own washing facility
- It washes by immersion or in-plant method
- It states that it handles fine rugs — Persian, Oriental, wool, silk or antique
- Its location is confirmed on its own site
What a badge does not mean
- It is not a rating, score or ranking
- It is not a guarantee of workmanship or of any particular result
- It is not an endorsement, and it was not paid for
- It reflects evidence on the date recorded, and it can be revoked

Common questions
About this registry
What makes a rug specialist different from a carpet cleaner?
A specialist washes rugs away from your home, in its own facility. The rug is dusted dry, immersed in water, flushed, groomed and dried under controlled conditions. A carpet cleaner works on fixed flooring with a wand or a bonnet, in place. Both are legitimate trades; only one of them is appropriate for a hand-knotted wool or silk rug. The full comparison is here.
What does “Verified” mean on this site?
It means we found and recorded published evidence for four things: the business has its own facility, it washes rugs by immersion or in-plant method, it handles fine rugs such as Persian, Oriental, wool, silk or antique pieces, and its location is confirmed. Every piece of evidence is a link you can check on the business’s own verification record. If any one of the four is missing, the entry shows “Listed” instead. The standard is published in full.
Do you take payment from the businesses listed?
No. Listing is free, verification is free, and the badge is free. No business can buy a verification or improve its position by paying. Nothing on this site is a paid placement.
Why are there no star ratings?
Because we have not collected any, and publishing review scores we cannot stand behind would undermine the only thing this registry is for. What we publish instead is evidence about capability, with sources, and the date we last checked it.
